Bourne Legacy Overtakes Dark Knight At US box office

Rachel Weisz Jeremy Renner in The Bourne Legacy

Action film The Bourne Legacy has topped the North American box office chart, knocking The Dark Knight Rises off the number one spot.

The latest instalment in the Bourne series took $40.3m (£25.7m) in its opening weekend, according to studio estimates.

Jeremy Renner plays special agent Aaron Cross in the first Bourne movie without Matt Damon.

But the film took less than the $69.3m debut for Damon’s final Bourne outing.

The Bourne Ultimatum was released in 2007.

Political comedy The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as rivals in a US congress election, made its debut at number two with takings of $27.4m (£17.4m) between Friday and Sunday.

Batman film The Dark Knight dropped to third place and Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones’ marital comedy Hope Springs opened at number four with $15.6m (£10m).

The Bourne Legacy, which also stars Rachel Weisz, is the fourth film in the franchise.

Renner plays an agent pursued by Jason Bourne’s old spymasters after they try to stop an espionage programme in a cover-up conspiracy.

“I love the fact that we were able to re-boot this and do as well as we were able to,” said Nikki Rocco, Universal’s head of distribution. “It leaves it open for us to think about it going forward.

“We are very much into what it’s going to look like the next time.”

Anyone seen it? Any good?

Imagine Denzel Washington And Will Smith In One Movie…

Warner Bros is hoping to cast Will Smith and Denzel Washington in a remake of the 1974 comedy Uptown Saturday Night.- WOW WOW WOW!!!!

The new version of Uptown Saturday Night has been penned by This Means War writer Timothy Dowling.

The original ’70s comedy tells the story of two men trying to recover a winning lottery ticket after an armed robbery at an illegal nightclub. It starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier, along with Harry Belafonte and comedian Richard Pryor.

If the deal goes through, McKay will direct the film after completing the recently announced sequel to Will Ferrell’s Anchorman.

Smith and Washington are the number one choices to take on the Cosby and Poitier roles, though it is not known at what stage of negotiations the two stars are at for the project.

Washington is also being eyed for a remake of the 1985 drama The Equalizer.

A third instalment of the Men In Black franchise is set for release this summer, starring Will Smith opposite Josh Brolin.

Rihanna Gears Up To Star In The Fast And The Furious Sequel!

Rihanna Gears Up to Star in The Fast and The Furious Sequel

It seems that R&B princess Rihanna could be exchanging her musical roots for an acting career. The ‘We Found Love’ singer is rumoured to have landed a role in the The Fast and The Furious 6 as a foxy villain. The news comes just weeks before the release of Rihanna’s debut film, Battleship, and according to an inside source, her debut performance in this well publicised action movie impressed writers and critics so much that she is now being lined up to star alongside super stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Vin Diesel.

Speaking to The Sun, the source said ‘Rihanna impressed with her acting debut in Battleship. Writers think she’ll be perfect for the role. Her character has plenty of bite and doesn’t take any prisoners — just like her in real life. It’s a step up the ladder for her that could lead to bigger action roles.’

The sixth instalment of the popular speed racing franchise isn’t set for release until May 2013, but production is due to begin next month. This time, the movie will be set in London although due to the Olympics, certain areas of the city will be off limits meaning some of the racing scenes will be shot in Southend and Essex. With Vin Diesel hinting in interviews that the sixth sequel of The Fast and The Furious is going to be split into two films, it could mean that Rihanna will have the option to star in the seventh movie too.

Titanic …again…but not just 3hours…3D tooo

Titanic in 3D hits the big screen on Friday April 6,  to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the sinking of the famous ship on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York.

Now, if you’re in the UK you’re probably feeling sea-sick from all the Titanic themed shows on TV, but see now you know why.

In terms of Titanic 3D, we dont even recall the first one and may not want to sit for a further three hours to forget the 3D one but hey Kudos to James Cameron, he makes good long ass epics!

And a special congratulations to Mr Cameron, the Titanic’s director, on successfully completing a solo dive to the world’s deepest-known point on Earth last week.

But back to the film, one thing we do recall from the first film is the steamy love scene between Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio when Kate was asked if she will watch that scene at the premier she said she’d rather not and “I’ll be down the pub by then”

Anyway here’s the trailer….enjoy
